CRANS AMBASSADOR 2014

When the Mountain Transcends Art!
Very often art is invited to the mountains. One of the most prestigious establishments in the canton of Valais, in the Swiss Alps, the Crans Ambassador, has for some time become an art gallery.
The luxury hotel presented in its premises a splendor of contemporary art through an exhibition of the artist ORSA and his guest of honor Philippe Pasqua.

100 BIKES A WORK OF ART

The monumental sculpture dedicated to the Tour de France under the name "100 bikes a work of art" is put up in the heart of Calvi. Made out of two used bicycles collections, salvaged from the local population, it is the work of the Collective of aspiring plastic surgeons from the college Jean-Felix Orabona. 4 months were necessary to end the site under the supervision of their teachers Christian Lettreux and Nicole Monfront, the moderator Aurélie and placed under the watchful eye of the inspirational sculptor Jean-Dominique Orsatelli.

The principle is to highlight a part of the architectural heritage of Calvi, that will be under the spotlight and under 4000 journalists pen’s covering the tour.
It is thus the Citadelle and more particularly the tower La Tour du Sel that were chosen to be home to the work of art.
Composed of four large tarps and the recycled bikes, the work is set on two parts of the tower.

On the landward side, facing the port, the plastic work focuses on the number one hundred, on the stages of the Tour de France in Corsica and on the most representative colors of the coastal landscapes of the island. A modest but symbolic tribute was paid to the young Adrien Lippini, disappeared during a bicycle ride on the Biguglia road in 2009.

This tribute sets the values of youth, dynamism and hope, values that are also carried by the Tour de France and sports in general !!!

On the sea side, the iconic character of Christopher Columbus is honored through the making of a "bike caravel" in the colors of the Tour de France jerseys.

Through Christopher Columbus, self-discipline, bravery and courage are conveyed; qualities of all great sportsmen and adventurers, whose discovery of the unknown is a driving force and not a fear.
